Deadline for Regular Nominations to This Year's Claiming Crown is Next Friday, June 11th

Don't miss out on the chance to get in on one of the most exciting and rewarding racing events of the year for owners and trainers - the $500,000 Claiming Crown. Nominate your qualifying horses to the 2010 Claiming Crown no later than next Friday, June 11th for just $500 for a regular nomination and have a chance at a half-million in purses.

Next Friday, June 11 is the deadline to submit regular $500 nominations and also the deadline by which those horsemen who had previously purchased an open nomination for the event must name their participating horse.

Supplemental nominations will be accepted from June 12th through July 9th for a cost of five percent (5%) of the race to which the horse is being supplemented.

Canterbury Park will host the 12th running of the Claiming Crown on Saturday, July 24, 2010. Patterned after the Breeders’ Cup, Claiming Crown was designed to reward Thoroughbred racing’s “blue-collar” horses and will offer six races at varying distances on both dirt and turf with purses totaling $500,000.

Conditions of eligibility for Claiming Crown 2010 will be identical to 2009, which means to be a participant a horse must have started for or below the specific claiming price since January 1, 2009. The races again will have purses ranging from $50,000 to $150,000 and the claiming levels will range from $7,500 to $35,000.

This year's Claiming Crown races will be:

* $50,000 Iron Horse, three-year-olds and up, starters for $7,500 or less, one mile and one-sixteenth.
* $50,000 Express, three-year-olds and up, starters for $7,500 or less, six furlongs.
* $75,000 Glass Slipper, fillies and mares, three-year-olds and up, starters for $16,000 or less, six furlongs.
* $75,000 Rapid Transit, three-year-olds and up, starters for $16,000 or less, six furlongs.
* $100,000 Emerald, three-year-olds and up, starters for $25,000 or less, one mile and one-sixteenth on turf.
* $150,000 Jewel, three-year-olds and up, starters for $35,000 or less, one and one-eighth miles.

This is an event not to be missed not just because of the lucrative purses, but also for the red carpet treatment and great parties Canterbury Park is known for providing for the participating owners and trainers.

Co-founded by the National Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (NHBPA) and the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA), the inaugural Claiming Crown was held at Canterbury Park in 1999. The suburban Minneapolis racetrack has played host every year except 2002, when the event was held at Philadelphia Park and 2007, when western Kentucky’s Ellis Park was the site.
